Strange gfx

Postby ajay » Sun Apr 19, 2009 8:53 pm

I've just copied over all my quake stuff from my external hdd back up to my laptop which is the same as prior to the hdd failure, except for the new hdd.
The problem is that glquake, fitzquake and tq148 all have strange blotchy, wavey, psychadelic, non-viewable gfx. Winquake and, more significantly , darkplaces run fine.
Prior to my reinstalling everything, drivers quake etc, does anyone know any possible cause?
Cheers
andy

sounds a bit like dodgy / broken hardware but yes lest see a screenie ?

could be driver based (mostly the cause if theres no artifacts before windows loads) few rare cases i seen a gfx card go nuts because of a broken agp pci express port. if you got an extra pc or a friend with compatible mainboard i suggest you test the gfx card there if the problem persist on another machine the most likely outcome is that the gfx card has taken its last breath.

I did think that; gfx card dying, but the fact that darkplaces runs fine confused me, in addition i tried some other gfx card related stuff; tech demos etc, and then run fine too???

Can't do screenie at the moment, will try after work.

You have an ATI card and -bpp 32 will fix this.
ATI sucks and my magic crystal ball rocks.

edit: Wooo, negke used a timemachine to post this 30 minutes earlier.

I am very impressed; I do indeed hve an ATI card, and yes, -bpp32 did indeed fix it.
However, what confuses me is that it was the same ATI card previously and it didn't do it before. Nevermind, its fixed and I be happy.
Thanks.
