Yeah, posting links to halflife sites is an instant ban here...

Aaanyway, more interesting for me is if we can steal... urr... borrow their models for use with q1 mods. :)
So long as they don't claim that it is quake, and so long as they create their own content from scratch, then I wish them luck with their project.
Deathmatch Classic Source...

I wonder if they'll do it faithfully and recreate exploits such as triggering pain frames just as the monster is about to shoot. And bunnyhopping through maps in 10 secs that should take 10 mins.
Its just not quake if you can't exploit it. :P

Definately yet another moddb source mod that will never get beyond the unskinned renders phase.

Why should it be against the rules to post this?!

Yeah, that mod looks like imminent fail, indeed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here who shares the same stale opinion on 90% of these mods that find their way onto moddb's website.

And the sad thing is hardly anyone is attempting to make somthing original anymore. It's either remakes of Quake, Doom, etc using the latest game engines, or doing yet another gazzillionth remake of a remake of a remake of a remake of yet another remake of a remake of an old and boring Stargate/Star Trek/Aliens/Halo franchise mod.

And the last 2 posters forgot the most important line there:

(we really, really really need a programmer, badly)

Probably this alone is why it isn't going anywhere...

also todd h wouldn't let such project fly by without his consent, so a releasable state of this is legally impossible

There is a great irony in remaking Quake in Source, its like doing a Quake mod for DarkPlaces, taking out the quality shadows, layering in some post processing effects, and then futzing with the overall feel... (I'm sure despite these things, LordHavoc would still be offended by comparing DP to Source, and he should be honestly) ...don't forget to misalign those textures, and have tons of lightmap errors, otherwise it wont be a true Source release!

Oi to projects like this, and oi to the bizarre perception of "engines" so many in the gaming world seem to have. "Its in a more recently released game, a company with lots of money uses it, it must be great!"

I don't know if anyone noticed, but Quake is still fun to play, you know, as it is... Its not even aged that much, yes its shown its age technologically - as every single game ever made will in time, but unlike the bulk of titles, its held on to its qualities over that time nonetheless.

No need to apologize, it does have a certain relevance, but Quake has been leeched enough by Valve in and of itself, let alone the community. Its something you see from time to time and it tends to wear one down... So we can relate to it, its just not a positive relation is all.

Regarding being against the rules, nothing illegal, nothing that could get people in trouble at work, no harassment is my general understanding of it.

This particular thing is something that most of us wouldn't have the most positive thoughts about, a mixture of "Oh another artist only project", "someone else trying to do Quake" (we're very sensitive about our Quake you see), "another Source project..." et cetera.

Like I said, no need to apologize, and you didn't break any rules, its just a matter of getting used to the community here =)
