Hurried Descent Q2, for those of you who like Quake 2
I thought it might be appropriate to show my latest mod-in-progress, even though most of you don't mess with Quake 2 much.
Hurried Descent Quake 2 evolved from a simple experiment ('can I actually make a Q2 mod?') into somewhat of a full fledged mod.
Some of you might remember Akuma's excellent Q1 mini-mod Hurried Descent, well I ported this over to Q2 and enhanced it in some areas.
The biggest improvement are new levels, keeping track of player records and a fancy schmancy menu to select levels.
More info is on my site, though the info on the main page and the projects page is slightly out of date.
Check out this page for some screenies.
No download yet, I hope to release this during QExpo, if Quake 2 will be included that is. Otherwise it'll be released once I'm satisfied with it.

That looks great! I love what you've done with the menu, too.
More and more I'm looking forward to QExpo.

Speaking of which, I'm wondering when it's supposed to be held... romi said we should get it started already, which almost made me freak out since I haven't even started on my stuff yet (well I sorta have, indirectly)... I'm counting on a few months, I think Frik mentioned August, others have been saying June-July... Not sooner than that atleast!
I was once a Quake modder

I'm wondering too...
Maybe we should post a poll to encourage people to give us the info we need. For example:
"
Let's decide here and now what month we'll have QExpo on. Please vote for one month and post below what days you'd recommend we have it on for that month.
Once the month is decided, we'll have a vote for what days to have it on and how long it will be.
*June
*July
*Aug
*Sept

I plan to keep that as a theme, so all the new levels should feature the laughing guy while you die an inevitable death. It's one of the things I really liked about the original, though it's only really a novelty the first time.

Then don't have the laughing guy at the end of all of them, just one. Do something different for each level...

Yeah, I plan to keep the laughing guy. Just the means of death would be different on each map. The laughing guy is something I want to keep as a sort of tradition and an homage to the original.
I really liked the effect, it fit with the whole 'nightmare' theme perfectly (the mod was based on a nightmare Akuma had once).
I just need some 'ominous' things for him to say, preferably in the same voice. I'm not going to record them myself, my horrible Dutch accent would ruin the effect.

I was playing around with Keygrip today, trying to make an intro for HDQ2, and I was pretty satisfied with the results.
I thought this might make for a good time to release a little 'promo' so you have an idea of what this mod is all about.
Get it here http://www.planetkoolio.com/files/hurrypromo.zip
Unzip it to your Q2 directory, keeping the file structure from the zip intact. Then run Q2 with quake2.exe +set game hurrypromo , sit back and enjoy! (or not as the case might be).

Mmm... the words *hurried descent*, *kools*, *qexpo* and *august* in a single forum threads... Me likes it
/me rejoices at the thought of Qexpo possibly being held in August, since he'll be on a little break and could actually take a (modest) part in it

CocoT! Long time no see. It's good to hear from you again, I miss having you around. I hope you'll have the time to participate in QExpo. That'd be great!

Hehe, thank you
I miss being around you guys, too... And yup, the more I think about it, the more I think I should be able to spend some time for it
Now, as for what exactly I'll do, I don't know... my QuakeC is rustier than ever... but, well, I have a couple of simple mini-mod ideas I could work on
