Some good ideas in there Wazat!
I don't think anything that's required to swing in an animation would work as it needs speed. This is why the Q3 gauntlet worked well.
Something where the blade spins and so it can constantly fire out damage every 0.1 seconds would work best. I think the Q3 one does this and on hit, then has a 0.5 second refire time.
Here's one I prepared earlier:

Watch your fingers!
That model looks nice. I imagine that could work very well in 1 hand with a gun in the other (as mentioned above), or as a melee weapon by itself. Or you could do it like the Li'l Ripper in Conquest, where the primary fire launches the saw blades and the alt fire spins them as a much more damaging melee weapon.
As long as its damage is high and it has a large enough range for hitting then it might work in Nexuiz. I like the idea of attacking every 0.1 seconds until it hits something, doing heavy damage, and then delaying for 0.5 before attacking again.
It might also be a very good idea to have a rapid-fire melee weapon slow the target down or very briefly glue the two together. It's just so easy to slip away, even by accident, from a melee attack. Even the attacker will have difficulty keeping a stationary target in his blade if the melee weapon is knocking them back from the damage.

Wow, all these ideas are great. That model is exceptional Electro. I agree such a weapon would yield the the highest probability of a hit. An additional idea may be a (really) short range hook capable of pulling the enemy into the blade. This would be doubly cool for changing your direction. That is, if you were to jump over someone while doing a 180 and hook into them and get in a gash as you go back in the direction you attacked.

An alt-fire hook would be cool. Pull them into the blade (or you into them), and it keeps pulling until you release the alt-fire button.

If it keeps pulling it may be an issue. The hook in the SVN build has this electric energy hook feel to it. It'd be nice if this was used and caused the weapon to overheat and lose grip to recharge for a number of seconds. The blades would be unaffected and could continue spinning infinitely however. Much like the alien weapons behaved in Halo.
I feel like without a time limit it would be abused.

He's definitely still interested in the game just a little stressed and hurt by the nonsense and drama that go with it. We could still use some help to help take that burden off of him so it can be the fun project he used to love.
