Why, unless the engine is going to maintain Q1 compatibility?hogsy wrote:This is excluding all code for OpenKatana

Someone else on the team doesn't want the code specifically written out for OpenKatana to be public yet because they believe it'll spoil some of the game. In the mean time, as you'll see on the repository, included in the game-code is everything necessary for a clean slate to write something on top of and aside from that I'm also working on some examples.

Old dog, new tricks. Slowly learning my way in CSQC to build the HUD:

I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC

your 2d aspect ratio looks wrong to me. try tweaking vid_conwidth+vid_conheight to better match your screen res.

D'oh! You're right, of course... Adjusted to half the screen resolution, and now aspect ratio is correct. Thanks!

jim: Solid, consistent weaps (even grip positioning) that look like they belong to the same realm. How did you get this shading effect?

drm_wayne: The bolt action area could use some more detail.
Thanks qbism. The shading is comes from my palette. Yea, I thought I make them so that one animation/pose works with all of them.
Here's some more.. redid the plasma gun and made 2 new. These make the total weapon count 10. There's now 1 "melee", 3 automatic, 2 slow, 2 explosive and 2 "bfg" class weapons. Next week I'm going to be trying them ingame with some temp textures.

I don't know how you knock out those weapon shapes so fast. I'm struggling trying to come up with one identifiable shape for a rocket launcher.

Re: What are you working on?
I've been planning them for some months now, but this planning wasn't really about the shapes. It did involve thoughts about what parts will move. 7-8 weapons may have a moving part/s.
Recently I've been getting into speed modeling/mapping/etc attitude. Two weeks ago I made 8 levels for Doom in a week. Now I continued the same kind of thing with modeling.
Usually the first idea for something is the best idea. All the basic shapes for the weapons were done in an hour. Most of the major shapes use 1 or 0.5 unit grid. After that I did some detailing, sizing and fitting the handles/grips to fit the pose in the character. While doing the modeling... no-thinking is required/useful. So, in some sense they're kind of random shapes. They're also sort of generic.. I didn't stress myself at all with trying to create something uniquely new.
Every time I completed a weapon or got stuck in thinking... I got up and moved around for a bit. If I was still stuck after returning, I started another weapon and returned to the previous later (possibly the next day after sleeping).
And if you think you're doing a Rocket Launcher, but then "it starts to look like" / "you get an idea for" a Railgun.. then make a Railgun. The Rocket Launcher idea will be processed in the background while you're making the Railgun.
The mind works better after some physical exercise and when it's not actively bothered with thoughts.

I know the focus in this thread is on those weapon shapes, but holy crap 8 Doom levels in 7 days. Is your last name perhaps Casali? Wow.
...and all around me was the chaos of battle and the reek of running blood.... and for the first time in my life I knew true happiness.
