What are you working on?

Dr. Shadowborg: If this a power up symbol it should be something that can be recognized from a distance. It should have less small details and more big strokes (simple geometric shapes) and distinct colours for certain areas of the model. Could try a large upright hammer (link to hellsmash name) or mace object with large spikes and paint parts silver/red to match the existing (quad/pent) power ups. Good to see you got a blog up and working for your MOD.

Okay, so this is what I ended up with using everybodys suggestions:

Yes, there's a reason why it has a severed hand attached to it.
"Hazardous Exercise Equipment" and "Dr. Shadowborg Hates Exercise" jokes may now commence.
In retrospect, I'll probably redo this with simpler "flat / rune" geometry so that it remains in keeping with the original ID1 and Fury Breaker styles. (this does serve nicely as concept art, and doing it gave me some good modeling practice.)

Slowly remaking and/or reskining models for my mod:

I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC

QuArK + QME + PSP (for skins).
Yeah I know, "why not <insert_better_3d_modeller_here> ?!".
I'm too used to this setup, and too lazy to learn something better for basically a hobby.

Re: What are you working on?
OLDER versions of Quark (4.x) could model. 5.x horribly broke it, unfixed since.

frag.machine: the only problem I have with your "too lazy" bit is the way you don't take your hobby seriously. IMO, a hobby should be taken more seriously than a job

I suppose it depends on what type of theme you are going with, modern/futuristic Q2 or old world Quake. I thought it was a Q2 weapon when I first saw it. If this is the theme you want then it looks cool but it could be better if it fit with the Quake universe instead. Maybe add older elements to the shape?
Maybe add Old Radio Valves considering your project source it would be ironic
Always thought the telsa gun from Wolfenstein was cool looking because it felt old tech.

Re: What are you working on?
@ceriux, is this designed for Quake? It feels like something found on a modern day building site with the bright yellow/orange hammer casing at the top. Maybe try a silver metal so you have the obvious contrast in colours and make it less health and safety danger colours. Could also try rusty brown to make it feel used.
