Nice stuff! I will say it gives more of a Half-Life or Unreal vibe than a Quake one for me, but it is still very well done. I like the details you put into the behaviors. It would go well with some of the darker idbase user maps out there, maybe something like Hell in a Can?

...and all around me was the chaos of battle and the reek of running blood.... and for the first time in my life I knew true happiness.

Re: What are you working on?
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Hello taniwha,
It is finished and could be released, but the only thing that is missing is the head-gib.
I am no good modeller, but I didnt want to release a Quake monster without a head-gib. LOL
That would not be a Quake monster other wise...
My friend webangel helps me with this and while we are at it, we thought the "regular" other 3 gib parts
would maybe not match the slim spider body too, so we want to make 4 gib parts alltogether.
The head-gib with some spider legs and its ripped off tail.
As soon as it is done, the spider will be released with the source.
I tried to keep the QC code as vanilla friendly as possible, but beeing a DarkPlaces user, I could
not resist to use extensions here and there.
But as mentioned above, those can be easily deleted or replaced with fixed values to make the
spider engine-independent. Those are not really relevant for the spider as is and its basic features.
Hello scar3crow,
Yes, this little beast has almost 500 animation frames. It is a simple .mdl model though with various skins.
Maybe you are right and it does not fit into Quake, but Quake is the only game I 'play' with
Hopefully some people can make use of it anyway...
Best wishes,
Seven

Re: What are you working on?
The little jumps on the grunt replacement are goofy. It would be more interesting to make it do something more creepy (e.g. slowly raising one leg at a time and making weird sounds as if it was talking to someone else).
Other than that, it's perfect. Really good job!

Reminds me this:

I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC

Seven: cool, I'm looking forward to it.
As for the extensions, just make sure they're well marked with an appropriate comment (maybe a brief description of the extension near the declaration).

Re: What are you working on?
That is one hell of a cool monster Seven! Love it
I've been working on two projects, aside from signifigant engine work.
First, I am working on a mode for Alien Arena called AA Tactical. This is a team based mode, that pits humans against aliens in an all out war to destroy the others base. Each team has several classes to choose from with different abilities. Some can drop bombs, others can drop detonators, others can pick up stronger weapons and diffuse bombs, etc. The bases have different ways of being destroyed and partially disabled along the way. Movement is slower and more realistic, and I'm looking to add some different movements like leaning, etc. I'll be releasing a beta in the Spring/early summer of 2013.
Some screens of it so far(not much to really show visually that's different, other than aliens get different blasters to start with):

The other project which I've been spending time on, is a complete revamp of Alteria, using the CRX engine. This is in it's *very* early stages, so not a lot to show yet. It will probably be a several year project. For those who don't remember Alteria, I released this back in 2001/2002 using an engine based on the Q1 source, and some of I think MHQuake's particle system, and quite a few other changes.
A view of the original:

Re: What are you working on?
Heh, a bit beyond what QF can pull off at this stage. Looks nice.
I notice you don't have lens flares: nice
. They really annoy me as you need a compound lens to get them (I can't notice any flares on my glasses, even), and only yuppie parents view the world through a compound lens
.
Hmm, now I wonder which is worse, lens flares in first-person games, or people running around with a video camera seemingly glued to their eye (though these days, the cameras all have the fold-out screen, but same idea).

Hello Irritant,
Your Alteria project screenshots looks really nice.
It has a horror/fantasy flair, which I like very much.
I didnt know "Alteria" yet and want to try the original version.
Unfortunately I cannot find it (planetquake links are dead).
Can someone upload it ?
Thank you very much.
