Re: Reflex kickstarter!

As if you could compare Quake3/live that has a more than a decade old fanbase and balancing to a new-comer... Even the people from Epic Games have realized that only something like community ownership can succeed in this nieche (see development model of the new Unreal Tournament), and they definitly...

Re: Reflex kickstarter!

If it was an open-source game (with some commercial services) I would definitly pledge, but like this it seems like another Nexuiz (the commercial one). Don't get me wrong... great project and high production values and all that... but the nieche of competitive shooters is though and you need to be ...

Re: Procedural animations: presentation of concepts

Yes, this isn't really revolutional technology but rather clever use of exisiting one to lower the workload to create nice looking animations.

Re: Lets get ? bloody

and SPOILER: this community has been aware of Transfusion since the beginning. Telling the community to work on it just to add 'modern features from Xonotic' is also missing the point. (also, I wonder where I have heard this before? ) Perhaps the lack of enthusiasm with the points I just addressed ...

Re: Lets get ? bloody

Well... would be awesome if someone skilled with Darkplaces programming would pick up Transfusion's development again :) Multiplayer is pretty functional, and it was (and is) always a blast to play with friends on a LAN. I recently tried running it with a newer Darkplaces build and it still more or ...

Re: Lets get ? bloody

Transfusion got official permission to use it non-commercially and without mentioning the name "Blood". Other projects seem to have since assumed it's fair game to use in the same fashion, but strickly speaking only the Transfusion project can use the assets legally (IANAL).

Re: Lets get ? bloody

IMHO Transfusion is cooler: http://www.transfusion-game.com/
Edit: Darkplaces based but sadly lacking active development since a few years.

Procedural animations: presentation of concepts

Awesome presentation on procedural animations development (and responsive game animation in general):

Would love to see an open-source implementation of that in the good old quake engine ;)

Re: [opportunity]Potential great set of open-source art asse

Ehh, ok sorry this really wasn't my intend at all. I truely believe this is a great opportunity to develop an interesting game with a great set of assets. In fact I am willing to help out with 3D modelling (and converting etc.), but I lack the time and advanced programming skills to step up as the p...

Re: [opportunity]Potential great set of open-source art asse

Ok we totally disagree then, but no hard feelings as I do get where you are coming from; but boxy placeholder art will not help you build a community around a playable game.

Oh and I am really looking forward to your game, please proof me wrong (this isn't a snarky comment)!

Re: [opportunity]Potential great set of open-source art asse

Well, maybe we disagree, maybe I think gameplay is more important than a coherent style, or maybe I am just more pragmatic ;) I only see those existing assets as a base to work with and improve on, call them place-holders or less then perfect solutions until a more polished and unique one is made. H...

Re: [opportunity]Potential great set of open-source art asse

I have been silent about this whole manipulative clique issue for far too long, and it's this little paragraph that triggered my emotions... On the other hand I think discriminating projects because they don't fit your recycling agenda as "pointless" and "reinventing wheel" are ...

Re: [opportunity]Potential great set of open-source art asse

My $0.02: I haven't seen the assets so I'll take your word regarding the quality. But from what I read from the linked thread it seems the author isn't exactly interested in just contribute to the indie game scene; while I find perfectly acceptable that the artist seeks financial reward for his job...

Re: [opportunity]Potential great set of open-source art asse

Hmm... first of all as a indi-developer you really can't be that picky and secondly I think those assets are flexible enough to allow for a wide range of games. But I find that sentiment strange in general. There is way too much reinventing the wheel in game development, especially in open-source an...
